Dr. Dat Tran is originally from Montreal. He initially studied biochemical engineering at Polytechnique Montréal, and in 2011 obtained his DMD from the University of Montreal. During internships with the Canadian Immunization Research Network and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada, he researched stem cells and biomedical heart valves.
While maintaining a full-time dental practice, Dr. Tran has spent more than 500 hours learning about cosmetic dentistry, implants, root canals, and sedation. He is licensed by the Alberta Dental Association and College to provide conscious IV sedation. He believes in helping his patients preserve their natural teeth and offering solutions to reduce their anxiety about dental procedures.
Dr. Tran also believes that creativity in a dentist is a crucial, and often under-valued skill set. To this end, Dr. Tran appreciates the important role that dental photography holds when connecting with his patients.
“To me, portrait photography is about establishing a strong connection with my patient. It allows me to capture that person's best and to reveal that moment on a piece of paper. Still to this day, I am passionate about photography because I believe it helps me become a better dental provider every single day.”
Dr. Tran is proud to now call Calgary his home. It is always his goal to give back to the community, and he describes his two most rewarding experiences so far as volunteering at the Calgary Urban Project Society (CUPS) and a mission trip to a rural community in Northern Vietnam.
“Witnessing patients lining up for two hours as early as 7:00 a.m., on a Saturday, at minus twenty-five degrees Celsius, in order to receive basic dental care at CUPS is an experience that will open your mind and heart.”
Dr. Tran loves learning new languages and enjoys skiing in the beautiful Rocky Mountains! He loves continually learning new things and sharing what he has learned with his patients and anyone who is interested to help them improve their lives!
